Bushwick Inlet Park will encompass 28 waterfront acres (from N9th to Quay Sts., adjacent to the existing State Park).
The conceptual plan for Bushwick Inlet Park calls for a variety of active and passive recreation, including soccer and softball fields, volleyball courts, a central lawn, beach area, picnic area, bird and wetland gardens, a boat house and boat launch, community meeting space, vistors’ center, Monitor Museum, bike and pedestrian walkways, dogrun, and other amenities. Construction of Phase 1 of the park – adjacent to the East River State Park and running from North 9th to North 10th Streets begins in 2009 (see link to left). Additional parcels for the Bushwick Inlet Park are awaiting the relocation of existing businesses, undergoing environmental contamination testing and in legal dispute. The Bushwick Inlet Park includes a parcel (between N12-N13th Sts.) where Trans Gas Energy (TGE) has an option to build a power plant. For seven years, the Williamsburg/Greenpoint community has fought against having a power plant at this location. In March 2008, the NY State Board on Electrical Generation and Siting denied TGE’s application, however, in April 2008, TGE formally requested a rehearing, and announced that it will appeal the decision. Our city waterfront park and our community await the final determination.
