Childcare will be provided
Why Attend: Because of budgetary pressures, New York City spends only half of one-percent (0.5%) on its parks. Therefore, citizen participation is necessary for McCarren to be the gem it can be.
Even More Why: There are already a number of active and impactful friends groups for our neighborhood parks: McGolrick Park Neighborhood Alliance (MPNA)has successfully advocated for millions of dollars in capital project funding, and engages hundreds of neighbors through free art and recreational programs and volunteer projects. Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park (FBIP) are busy planning a slate of stewardship projects. Friends of Transmitter Park are currently negotiating community benefits with a developer planning to build a residential building next to the park. The Friends of American Playground are planning a significant beautification project. Los Amigos de BQGreen are advocating for a new 3.5 acre park to be built over the BQE on the Southside near the Marcy Ave J/M/Z stop. McCarren deserves Friends too!
If you get involved, McCarren will get better!
