On Thursday, December 1, OSA’s Greenpoint Parks Stewardship Program rolled out friends groups for Transmitter Park and American Playground. With 45 people in attendance, and nearly 20 others who expressed interest, but couldn’t attend, these two new friends groups are off to a fast start!

Thank you to all who attended! Thanks to Barbara Vetell, one of the founders of the first friends group at Transmitter Park for her words of wisdom and well wishes, as she handed over the keys to the new group. Thanks to our partners who came out to lend their high-octane support, including Katherine Thompson and Steve Chesler of Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park, Sophie Plitt and Kathleen Martin of Greening Greenpoint and Emily Sherrod of Partnerships for Parks. And thanks to our host Pencil Works for donating the space.

OSA introduced a new website for Friends of Transmitter Park. A website for Friends of American Playground is under construction.

Please calendar our next meeting on Wednesday, January 11 at 6:30 pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 155 Milton Street, which will focus on community input and priorities, and building a strong engine for both groups.

The volunteerism and the financial support these groups will develop will take Transmitter Park and American Playground a long way!
